Is Imposter Syndrome Keeping you from Flourishing?
While Imposter Syndrome has not officially been labeled as a disorder by the American Psychiatric Association, there has been a ton of research (over 14,000 studies) to prove that this diagnosis is in fact a real thing and is highly associated with both depression and anxiety. And here at TRR, we are trying to Flourish so ain’t nobody got time for that! So why are so many of us being affected by it?
Imposter Syndrome comes up in a significant number of my sessions and I personally have found it showing it’s ugly face in my own life, so I think it’s worth exploring. I also think that while research has shown that imposter syndrome impacts both men and women equally, it’s worth digging deeper into how this thing is impacting us as black women specifically.
If you have ever found yourself simply asking “Am I enough?”, then Episode 38 of The Reminder Remedy podcast is for you. In this episode we define and put a name to exact what imposter syndrome is and the two ways I see it impacting us most frequently either as business owners or corporate employees.
I also share a personal story highlighting my own challenges with imposter syndrome and what I found to be the anecdote for breaking through something that has been plaguing me for as long a I could remember.
Here are a few notes and and resources from the episode:
